My Mother My Friend

This talent that has come to me
must have come from you
The only thing my father gave
were bruises black and blue

So now I sit here wondering
why it's taken me so long
to tap into this talent
writing verses like a song

You've given me so much dear Mom
but I think I'll remember best
the way you used to cradle me
as a baby on your breast

You wrote in my baby book
to music he bills and coos
I recall this vividly
and hope that you do too

You're my mom and my best friend
and have been all my life
If it hadn't been for you
Id have gone through much more strife

So as my life comes near it's end
I feel the need to say
I love you Mom, my dearest friend
and I've always felt this way
