A place for adults to discuss writing and write intelligently on any topic, from E and up |
Both Egg and Obama have raised an interesting issue, albeit from opposite ends of the spectrum, about the great American cultural and political divide. Rather than looking for a single group or individual to blame, I propose that we begin a civil, even handed, intelligent discussion about it. I have some ideas about how the conversation could be structured. 1) identify the issues that divide us 2) describe the polarized positions on each issue 3) discuss why this is happening now 4) talk about how the polarization plays itself out in the political arena. 5) explore possible ways to reduce the polarization 6) Discuss any other topics that might come up. This should keep us busy for about the next decade or so. If anyone has some other thoughts on the subject, please raise them. Otherwise, maybe somebody would want to take a stab at identifying a few devisive issues. I'll start with the obvious. 1. abortion 2. gay rights/marriage Marcia The "Invalid Item" is a place for a lively discussions on a variety of topics.
