I agree that religion plays a part for a lot of people. And I was going to mention it in my gay rights summary. But I think you're comparing the more fair-minded left-wingers to the more extreme right-wingers. To go from 'don't kill babies' to 'women shouldn't have rights' is a huge leap that most anti-abortion people don't make. Science recognizes the fact that a fetus is a human being. Our society recognizes the fact that murder is wrong. So you don't have to be religious to think abortion is wrong in 99.9% of cases.
