It sounds, to me, like your son also may have anxiety. My son has Aspergers as well as anxiety (and a few other things). I have been told by several psychiatrists that it is common to have more than one thing going on. Anxiety can cause social fears and, well, fears about anything. My son is fearful of things...it changes from germs, to a huge fear of spiders, and he has gone through social phobias. I know your son doesn't want to bet diagnosed and sit in that waiting room. Are there any other places you could take him to, such as a private psychiatrist? At least rule out anxiety. Because if he does have an anxiety issue, it can be helped quite a bit with some medication. I was told that young adults with Aspergers would qualify for technical training. Do you live in the U.S.? Does your son believe he has Aspergers and is he aware of what that means? Tigger makes a good point. Once she knew what was going on with her body and mind, she could help herself. Maybe even just some reading material for your son would help him feel empowered.
