I did a speech on it. I am way against the death penalty. For one, I think it's rather hypocritical to try to deter murder (since that's the main reason for capital punishment) by killing them. Like you're saying that if you kill someone, you better not or we'll kill you. And the death penalty does not deter criminals. They don't think they'll get caught. And besides, with the death penalty system we have now, you have a better chance of dying in a crack gang than locked up on death row. It's not a deterrent at all. And then there's the cost...it costs millions more from the start to go for the death penalty than if you go for life imprisonment. And then, half the time, it gets commuted to a lesser sentence, like life imprisonment with no chance of parole, so all that money was wasted. Therefore, I can't see any point at all to the death penalty other than to satisfy grudge requirements like we live in the Middle Ages or something.
