Knowing what you believe and why is at least as important as the believing itself. |
I have difficulty with this because I don't think that it is natural (that is to say that I think it is some sort of physiological imbalance...but then so is virtually everything that brings change and difference to our lives...so it isn't all that bad but it isn't the way that we were intended to function as is made obvious by our anatomical features) but I also don't think that love is ever a bad thing. Therefore I think that a compromise should be best in this situation. Marriage is a very specific act of union between a man and a woman and has its base in Christianity as a sacrament. Therefore it is very important and powerful to the faith of 1 billion people in the world including myself. I don't think same sex marriage should be legalized. I do think that gays and lesbians should be allowed to participate in a legally binding, state provided ceremony ie. civil union, that would afford them all the rights and responsibilities of every other married person in the country. This way there is no violation of our holy sacrament and there is also a legal opportunity for those same sex couples that wish to commit themselves to one another in a loving relationship. |
