Knowing what you believe and why is at least as important as the believing itself. |
While I agree with SimplyNisa, I would like to approach this from the perspective of a teacher. When there are students in your class that have just immigrated and can speak litle to no English, it not only hinders your teaching, but the learning of the ENTIRE class. Parents who speak little to no English are very difficult to involve in their child's education, although some love to learn right along side their child, the student is often split between the two worlds. His/her family wanting to impart their knowledge and views of things, while the school system is imparting the knowledge and views deemed appropriate by the higher ups of the education world. these students often find themselves failing, and dropping out, of school. They also tend to navigate toward others from their home nations, so that the stereotypical Barrios, Ghettos, etc. spring up in small towns as the immigrants find stereotypical jobs in plants, fast food, and other places. Some people like to argue that immigrants are taking jobs from people who already lived here, my argument is that the jobs wouldn't be open to immigrants if the people of our country would stop being lazy and merely griping about the immigrants taking jobs, and search out the jobs for themselve. Being from Texas, I really don't appreciate people who want to gripe about Mexican immigrants, these people come over to find a better life, take menial jobs that most of us wouldn't think about, and create a life that is much better for their families than what they had across the border. Their children can be healthier, and be better educated, here than they could have previously. I believe that immigration should be allowable for those in the need of it. People immigrate from America all the time and you never here complaints about those leaving! Elizabeth ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
