I’m glad you brought this one up again, Louise. "Rating Requires a Review" just doesn't hit it. Aside from what you said already, it makes me feel like I'm trying to "hide" my ratings, when all I want to insure is that I get an explanation for the ratings I get. Because of rating subjectiveness. Honestly, with the range of rating methods, I find the ratings rather useless as a writer, but also as a reader. I rarely even look at average ratings anymore, because I have found them to be so unreliable. Also, as Esprit said in the original thread, it would be a nice option for reviewers as well. In addition to what she said, sometimes it's impossible to find a good rating because the story may be magnificent with some glitches, yet you know it's far better than the "flawless" story you rated and reviewed just before. And "comments only" has the additional problem (aside from all that's already been said) of not saving said comments to the item, like actual reviews. It does seem as if this site discourages sending any opinion without sending stars along with it. How come? ~Chy |
