Mystery Writing

Here's hoping there are some mystery writers on here who can answer my questions.

I have a story that is, apparently, a mystery. However, I'm horrible at mysteries and haven't written one before. I think one of my fanfictions was a slight mystery, but then I inserted a chapter that gave a lot away but not the culprit. Sooo.... that won't do.

So to all the mystery writers on here, if you exist, do you have any pointers for a good mystery?
