Especially for LDS and Friends!

I think I was a terror to English teachers. By the time I made it to college(also Ricks), there were a few classes I couldn't resist going against the grain. I hated busy work, wasn't inspired by that "A" score and wasn't going to pretend otherwise. I stuck my 2cent comments in at odd times and had a sarcastic streak trained into me by one of the best. I scoffed at people's attempts to manipulate me. One of my English Teachers at Ricks (whom I loved enough to recommend my Husband to take) had me write a paper that I did not want to write. I was supposed to analyze the target audience of Sports Illustrated through the advertisments. Sure, I wrote it, and all the observations were correct and supported by evidence - she even admitted it herself. However, there was a very sarcastic tone throughout it. She gave me a "B" but said that if I would just go through and soften the tone she would change it to an "A". I just laughed. I'm not an "A" student. Why? Because of percisely that. I did enough to get by, and then did what I wanted. So many teachers pleaded with me, pointing out that there's no reason that I shouldn't be an "A" honors student. But they missed the point. I had no strong reason TO be one. Oh, I guess there were moments where I wanted people to see I was smart - like those gifted people - but every time I would end up in that honors class and they would give me that long list of stuff they wanted me to do - THEIR way. Nope, wasn't worth it.

Part of it is that I'm sort of iconoclastic. Not rude persae, or vulgar. But I'm not above saying that I think Hamlet was an idiot and deserved what he got. (come on, 5 innocent people died to avenge 1 murder?) Antigone was another fool. She died because she wanted to die a martyr to prove her point. Don't get me wrong - the writers are brilliant - it's the characters that were idiots.

I test the limits. I enjoy shaking people up - keeping them on their toes. I'm not so much in your face. I try to be subtle. A story without a twist of one sort or another probably isn't worth me writing (unless it's family history and then I may negotiate) simply because someone else could write it just fine - why do you need me? I love flipping people upside down and making it all sound logical.

P.S. Yes, there are days where my logical and down-to-earth Husband wants to strangle me. Of course I'm the person who taught him how to throw things at other people.
