If I write a fairytale, I want to write Rumplestiltskin. That one just seems so absurd to me. What father would declare to a king that his daughter can spin straw into gold? And what King would believe him? And after forced to do it, what woman would want to marry the wretch who threatened her life if she failed? Of course, if I took it on, I would go back and study more of the old versions too. Find out what it used to be - sometimes the older versions make a whole lot more sense.
