A place to mingle and meet friends. |
A few years ago, I became a major student on goal-setting so I love quotes on goals. They inspire me to set them, too. I think that President Monson spoke to the basic reason as to why goal-setting is important: "Our task is to become our best selves. One of God's greatest gifts to us is the joy of trying again, for no failure ever need be final." --Thomas S. Monson, "The Will Within," Ensign, May 1987, 67 I came to realize a few years ago that I was far from being my best self in most areas of my life. Not that I was doing horrible things or making major mistakes, but I was failing in one major way. I was not living up to my potential. I was not working at becoming my best self. I quickly realized that I needed to start setting goals. I quickly realized, however, that goal-setting wasn't enough. I quickly changed my focus of study from goal-setting to goal-getting (you may have even noticed that I set my handle as "GoalGetter" to remind myself of that). I started studying successful people in the various areas I wanted to improve to see what they did that made them successful in that area and started incorporating those same habits into my life. "To reach a goal you have never before attained, you must do things you have never before done." --Richard G. Scott, "Finding the Way Back," Ensign, May 1990, 74 My life has changed and improved by leaps and bounds when I switched to that focus and took action towards the things that I want and the person I want to be. I am still a long ways from achieving my goals, but, when I look back, I am a lot further along than I ever have been. And I won't stop until I have exceeded even my own expectations. This topic reminds me of a posting I wrote on my blog last week where I talk about rising to the occasion of your life that was inspired by a quote from Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I would like to invite any of you to read it at http://niceguyblogging.blogspot.com/2008/09/rise-to-occasion-of-your-life.html. You may find something in it that helps you in your goal-getting. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Whether or not you write well, write bravely. ~Bill Stout ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing. ~Benjamin Franklin
