A place to mingle and meet friends. |
In order to appreciate this true story, you have to suffer a little lesson in Washington State geography. I live in kennewick, WA which is part of the Tri-Cities area. Pasco and Richland make up the other two cities with the Columbia and Yakima rivers dividing each city from the other. Here endeth the lesson. Now, my 10-year old son loves to make trips to the recycling center with his grandfather every other month to get money for the cardboard and newspaper that he stores up in our garage between trips. He persuaded my dad to take him again this past Saturday so he could unload a total of 300 lbs giving him a whopping $6. On the ride home, my son was telling my father that he planned to sock the whole $6 away for his education. My father, of course, reminded him that he needed to pay tithing and then put half of what is left over away for his mission. My son optimistically told my father that he hoped he could just serve his mission in Kennewick so he could continue living at home. My father was tickled by my son's sensible way of thinking, but informed him that they don't allow you to serve a mission in your home town and that they send you somewhere else. My son thought a moment before saying, "Okay, but not somewhere to far away ... maybe Pasco." It may be time to teach him a hymn... It may not be on the mountain’s height, or over the stormy sea; It may not be at the battle’s front my Lord will have need of me; But if by a still, small voice He calls to paths I do not know, I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in Yours, I’ll go where You want me to go. I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord, O’er mountain, or plain, or sea; I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord, I’ll be what You want me to be. Perhaps today there are loving words which Jesus would have me speak; There may be now, in the paths of sin, some wand’rer whom I should seek. O Savior, if You will be my Guide, though dark and rugged the way, My voice shall echo the message sweet, I’ll say what You want me to say. I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord, O’er mountain, or plain, or sea; I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord, I’ll be what You want me to be. There’s surely somewhere a lowly place in earth’s harvest fields so wide, Where I may labor through life’s short day for Jesus, the Crucified. So, trusting my all unto Your care, I know You always love me! I’ll do Your will with a heart sincere, I’ll be what You want me to be. I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord, O’er mountain, or plain, or sea; I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord, I’ll be what You want me to be. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Whether or not you write well, write bravely. ~Bill Stout ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing. ~Benjamin Franklin
