Francie --
I have read several of your items in your portfolio and you asked if you lost credibility with me because of your shift tenses. I can tell you honestly that is not what I remember about your writing. When I see your name, do you know what I think of, or remember? I think of the powerful sentences you create and the amazing verbs you use that create such vivid imagery. When I first saw your name in this class, I remember thinking, 'Wow, what is she doing here? If there was anyone who uses such strong, active, powerful words, it's her, especially in her poetry.' I know I haven't visited everyone on the site, but if someone were to start a poll asking for the 'best' in this realm, I would have submitted your name. Even now, weeks and months later I remember your words, that's how powerful they are. What was that first poem I ever read of yours? Unchained Beast? Or the other one, the Stone Guardians? I read so many poems each week, it's only the rare ones that stick with me. The powerful ones. And I remember yours. That is what I remember about your writing.

It sounds like you have been having difficulties with switching tenses though in your stories, and that's another aspect of verbs I didn't even consider when I signed up for this class. If you find you try to write present tense, you should pat yourself on the back. It's very difficult, at least it was for me. It was the only time I had difficulties with switching tenses and if you enjoy writing in that tense, then I'm sure it will become smoother and smoother for you. It's like someone who enjoys playing guitar. Their fingers may bleed a little at first, but they're not going to stop, because they enjoy it and eventually, no more bleeding! I think the frustration you're going through with the edits and worries is just normal and in a few weeks things will come much easier for you -- at least I hope they do for me so I'm passing along that hope to you!
