Daily exercise, and boots (or boosts) for the muse. |
Today was the dedication anniversary of the church I belong to. This building has been around for 130 years, but there's been a church on the site for 240 years. That kind of history blows my mind. I imagine that I'm sat on a pew that someone sat on 130 years ago... my love of history will be nothing knew to you, but I want you to consider your history today. Do you follow any family/personal traditions with roots back to your early childhood? These can be great to research and write about. Write At Casa Acme, we have a superstition about placing new shoes on a table or work surface. It's a very bad thing to do, but I never really understood why until I spoke with my 93 year-old grandma. She explained that there was always one woman on every terraced street who had a big kitchen table. Invariably, this woman ended up with the job of 'laying out' anyone on the street who happened to die. Undertakers cost a lot of money, so it helped if the corpse was washed and dressed ready for his coffin. Sunday best, or new clothes, were folded on the table and the corpse was washed, dressed, and waited for collection. So, the only time new shoes were ever on a table top was when the occupier was unlikely to ever scuff the soles... Think of a personal or familial tradition and hand it to a character.
