Who likes shorter chapters?
by spidey Author IconMail Icon
I keep seeing outlines and plans for novels with 10-20 chapters, but I can't help thinking those will be very long chapters... For my first NaNo, I used a plan of using a CD as a guide. The album title was the novel title and the song titles were chapter names. I had ten chapters and writing for me was arduous and difficult. I felt like I had to stay on one scene or with one character for a very long time.

For my second NaNo, I ended up with over 40 chapters, and it was much easier for me! Looking at contemporary novels that I like to read, I often see 50+ shorter chapters, and I plan on doing this year's NaNo with many chapters instead of just a few.

Anyone have thoughts on this?
