Spidey, I suppose everyone has their own natural chapter length. I find mine vary from 5-8k. By the time I've set the scene, got the characters into position, walked them through the action and devised an ending/bridge, its suddenly 5000 words. That means that 50k for me averages out at about 10 chapters. Without really thinking about it, last year's Nano ended up at just short of ten chapters. I had a few that were only 4.5k and some that were almost 8 *shrugs*. Its what works best for you I guess, and the story you are trying to tell. I'd hate to think what my writing would be it like if I tried to mould it into 40 chapters ....all those intros and endings!!! *gulp*
