Watch Out! Your Computer's On Fire!
Hi there. I've been looking through the forum and it looks like there are quite a few generic "Hi, I'm new" messages, so I thought I'd spice things up with my heading. And don't worry, as far as I know, your computer is not really on fire.

My name's Kelly and I haven't been on writing.com very long. I'm just starting to really figure out how things work, but I've been writing off and on for years now. I usually write somewhat dark short stories and generally haven't shared them with people in the past, but I thought, what better place to open up than on the internet, right? If you want to, like the forum says, "mingle and socialize," let me know because as I said, I'm new here and I have no idea what I'm doing. =P

If you have the time and are curious, a typical example of my writing is "The Tree Man," which you can find in my portfolio. Like some other writers, I have difficulty summarizing my own work, so here's the note that opens up the story: I wrote this story when I was going through a sort of disturbing period, where I'd have extremely vivid nightmares and panic attacks. I've always felt a real connection with nature and one night my imagination turned on me, with the creation of the terrible Tree Man who I've come to both love and fear. He's a result of both my desire for closeness with nature, and my fear of betraying it, which is an inevitable part of being human.

I would link it but I haven't quite figured that out yet. Sorry if that's an inconvenience. =(
