One convention was literally months of planning and preparation... I can't even imagine 50 different conventions in 50 different places.
The convention, unfortunately, took time away from working on and progressing the site itself, like its features, upgrades, etc. While we very much enjoyed hosting and attending them, when we stepped back, we simply couldn't justify all of the time, effort and expense for the 40 to 50 people who attended each year. We felt those resources were far better spent working on the site itself which tens of thousands of people use all the time vs the experience of 40 or 50 people for one weekend.
That said, members may find like interest in working together to organize their own functions... But there's obviously a lot of logistical things you'd have to work out to make one happen in your own state.
