I think that it is important to keep our mind open and to asault it with new stimuli on a regular basis.Like yourself I will look at art I am not necessarily instantly connected to.Things can jar or awkwardly place themselves in our minds. They can be catalysts in ways we don't understand at the time we are experiencing them. These pieces of 'Art' may not be things we are connecting with emotionally as blainecindy mentions, but can still be a powerful catalytic force that stimulates the life process.
One can appreciate 'Art' on it's technical merits, but you need the tools for this. I did not understand Paul Rothcos huge purple canvases until I studied Art History.
Do you think perhaps one persons magic can be anothers mediocre?
