I finally watched the Star Trek movie the new reimagined one and was very disappointed. How on earth are you going to tell me that Uhora, Sulu and Chekov were at the academy in even the same decade as Kirk, Spock, Scotty and McCoy? They tried to smooth that over by revealing that Chekov was only 17 years old, but come on Chekov would have been like 8 years old when Kirk was an Ensign. Kirk's jump from cadet Ensign to Captain after one mission in space? Captain of not just any ship but the flagship of the Federation? A mission which was accompanied by only a single senior officer? The early scene of the boy Kirk driving a classic car off a cliff while being pursued by a future cop was lame and unnecessary, give me story not car chases. In short they had a chance to reimagine Star Trek and the original characters and screwed it up pursuing big explosions and special effects. Instead of taking the time to develop the new Kirk, Spock, Scotty and McCoy they had to rush Uhora Sulu and Chekov just to insert characterizations of the original characters so they could give their blurb line in a failed attempt to tug at the emotional strings of old faithful trekkies. There were some flashes of what could have been a very good film, mostly when they followed Spock, but all in all it was an epic fail. |
