MumstheWord and ember_rain have given you wonderful advice! My advice for you is just two simple words, perseverance and persistence. You need the first because you are going to hit bumps in the road and you're going to face some tough critics. That's life. You'll get through it...and guess what? Those bumps in the road and those bad reviews you're bound to get will make you stronger as a person and a writer. Don't get discouraged, especially if writing is something you truly love.
You need to be persistent also. Whether you have writer's block or have the words in your head but can't get them out the way you want them, keep at it. You may not be 100% happy with the end result but that's why we have the wonderful thing called editing.
I keep a journal and pen at my bedside and I always have my Blackberry on me. You never know when inspiration will strike so always be prepared. When an idea or a bunch of words just "pop" into my head, I write them down or type them & save them on my Blackberry. That way, they're there when I'm ready for them.
I'll leave you with this quote:
"The most essential factor is persistence - the determination never to allow your energy or enthusiasm to be dampened by the discouragement that must inevitably come." ~James Whitcomb Riley
