In addition to what SM did, you might want to check out the Fantasy Newsletter (if you haven't already) - the editors pick different Fantasy stories (and other item types) to feature each week. Usually items such as you're describing don't get picked (though there are exceptions), so you can find more "traditional" fantasy writings that have been, in effect, pre-screened.
