I think that once the actual preliminary pre-writing phase is done that would work well. In the beginning 3 weeks or so you are creating characters, plotting, and outlining. The author is a big fan of free-writing so you may want to use a pad and paper or word processor. Otherwise use your software and see if that works for you! This whole process is about finding what works for each of us and that will be as many different things as there will be people in the group!
