I agree, Boiler Man! The idea I first had of my antagonist was someone everyone would hate. But a completely "hate-able" antagonist isn't a well-rounded character. There has to be something in them, I think, that makes the reader think, "Okay, I get why you are so evil... but you need to get over it!" There are faults in the best of characters and redeeming qualities in the worst of characters.
