Item Search Feature

Sometimes I find a reference to an item number that has not been linked, particularly in handles. Could there be a search feature in which you enter the item number to gain results? I understand that most likely different types of items may have the same number, but I think it would be beneficial to have this capability. If there is already a way to do this, I haven't figured it out.
