Superheroes, powers, transformations, magic and similar are discussed in this forum! |
There are two basic types of heroes we all read about who work to better mankind, fight villainy, corruption, and so forth. First, there is the heroes of light who work within the law, as best they can. Superman is a fine example. Then there are the dark heroes who work outside of the law to obtain the same goal. Batman is a great example. However, like people, heroes are not limited to merely two stereotypes. There is the reluctant hero... one who would rather stay out of a situation but fate brings him or her to the front line. The vengeful hero.... this is a dark hero who is only after one goal, to avenge a friend or family. This hero can be easily depicted as a villain, depending upon your view point. The villain turned good, a character who switched sides after a double cross or betrayal. Darth Vader is one example, though his turn to the light side of the force cost him his life. Then, there is the villainous hero. A character that tries to save the day, only to make the situation worse. Young Terra from the Teen Titans is a prime example of this type of hero. So, when you create a hero character for an interactive or story, bear in mind what type of hero he or she is and the many variables that define his or her character. Sometimes life is not always black and white... there is also a shade of gray. |
