Well, or it would stop those "non-perfect" reviewers from reviewing at all.... Then we may be left with just a handful of people who's reviews are great. I think there's a huge potential downside to such a system. IMHO, we want to encourage everyone to send authors opinions of their work. From there, it's then up to the author to determine how useful the information in the review is. The key and most important step is just getting people to send reviews. Those who are seriously interested in improving their feedback can look to the public review page and the rank listings for some semblance of what's good reviewing and what's not. (Granted, "quantity" and "quality" are sometimes confused in the rankings, but to some respect each has it's place.) You'd also have tons of people "down-rating" reviews that are critical of pieces... making it even harder than it is now to get an honest opinion out of reviewers. Our biggest goal is to get feedback to our authors on their posted writings. Criticizing the people who take their own time to review doesn't sound like a good way to keep on that goal. The public reviewing system does allow people to send feedback to reviewers without trying to quantify that feedback with a rating. (BTW, most people don't really like the existing rating system on items to begin with. Adding another rating system reviews... egad.) ~~SM
