I agree. I would also like to have a 'preview item' button at the bottom of the 'Create a Static Item' editor. As someone who is new to this site, I ran into more formatting difficulties than I expected.

Not being able to preview my work made my initial experience here less than ideal. Due to the lack of a preview button, I was forced to use trial and error to test a new markup language (WritingML). Others were able to view the first item I created when it contained a stray formatting tag, which I thought I had deleted. Had I been able to preview the item before publishing it, I would have noticed the problem sooner.

While it's far from catastrophic that someone saw my writing when it wasn't in proper form, I do take pride in my work, and would rather have more control over how it looks before I present it to the rest of the world.
