If I understand rightly, there's a redundancy when you mouse-hover over someone's portfolio icon. Currently, when you hover over the icon, you get something like: Offline or Private Last on: Today Thing is (if I've got this right), if that member's privacy flag is set, you always get "Last on: Private". If the flag is not set, then you either get "Online now" or the "Last on" date. In other words, "Offline or Private" gives you no information not already provided by "Online now" or "Last on:...". If it says "Last on: Private", then the info is private (and the user may or may not be logged on); if it says "Last on: -date-" then the info is public but the user is logged off; if it says "Online now", then the info is public and the user is logged on. "Offline or Private" doesn't add anything. Rather than eliminating this, I think it would be quite useful to introduce an "intermediate" privacy setting. Currently (if I've got this right), members can either know if you're on (or when you were last on), or they can't know anything about your on-line status and history at all. No middle ground. I'd find it convenient if it were possible to make the "current online status" private (i.e not let members know if you were online *right now* or not), yet still make public the last logged-in date. I've got my account set to "private" because I often have a WdC window in the background (and periodically refreshing) even when I'm not paying any (or not much) attention to WdC. I don't want to offend anyone by seeming to be "online" yet unresponsive to queries/emails/IMs. On the other hand, I'd like other members to be able to know the *date* of my last log-in (be it today or a month ago) so they can see if I've been logging in recently or not. So it'd be nice if in My Account > Account Options > Privacy Options, in addition to "Session Privacy" (i..e "Show if I'm logged in right now or not") there were also a "Last Logged In Privacy" toggle (i.e. "Show the date of my last activity") that could be separately set. Then the mouse-hover info would no longer be redundant. In the case of someone with the "intermediate" setting, the info would always have "Private" displayed as the current "online" setting (even when the member was logged in), yet still give an actual date, rather than just "Private," for the "Last on:" value. -LP |
