Re: Re: Character Inventory
Thanks! I hear you. I'm not necessarily in any kind of hurry on this particular product, and your suggestion is a good one.

The character database was just one example of in-process work that we brainstormed. Maybe as a long-term project you could think about ways users could store and easily access in-process work. One of the things I like about Evernote its search function. I can easily pull up a snippet or character I created by keyword. Also, to paraphrase something Jedi said - having a structure that's more database-oriented with building blocks that would allow users to custom-design their items would give us the flexibility to organize how we like. For example, if you could make an item and decide which elements it contains - require a rating but allow users to pick title, body, entry field for the reader, output field for the interaction results, etc. And a comprehensive search function within one's own port would be an absolute must. Scrivener and MasterWriter have tags and labels and flexible folder structures and cross-linking between items. WDC has some of these functions, but they require coding on the part of the user, which is difficult for the non-technical and cumbersome even for the technically-inclined.

We're chatting about it in scroll now, and Storm Machine Author Icon called it WDC+ *Laugh*

I have no idea how marketable this is, the ability to better-organize in-process work. Also, I'm not trying to embed scope creep into the suggestion; we're just brainstorming. I just know I wish Scrivener and MasterWriter had online systems that didn't require me to install the data on my own hard drive, because hard drives are apparently allergic to me! Plus I use multiple mobile devices and computers, as most of us do these days, and I like to be able to access my work from multiple sources - another benefit of Evernote. But Evernote doesn't have an awesome review system, a sense of community, and writing contests and inspirations out the wazoo. I would love to be able to consolidate my work into one place, and quite frankly, I'm approaching you, not Evernote or Scrivener or MasterWriter, just because I'm such a fan of what you already have in place.

If you ever do decide to evaluate features for in-process work, I'm willing to serve on a brainstorming team or in a beta group. I'm sure Jedi would, also.

Regards,
Michelle
