I use something similar in Excel. Now I am playing with a new structure method within OneNote, but I still use my Excel as well. I tend to use hyperlinks to more indepth notes when necessary.

So it is kind of - book at a glance. I admit, I also add as I am writing which helps me identify any loose threads I may have introduced.
