I am thinking (and have been all day) that maybe the comparison to the Hitchhiker's Guide is not accurate. Because you are all right that was a spoof and a satire, which is not really what I am going for.
My novel is primarily a sci-fi comedy, yes, but the humor comes from the eccentric characters and the impossible situations they collide into. It is not a spoof of sci-fi, and it does not mock the genre whatsoever. Of course, that is quite the tightrope to walk across I understand, but I don't think anyone who enjoys sci fi or fantasy will be disappointed, especially if they like complex stories and situations, and robots getting blown up. I usually get criticized for being too complex.
