Not weird at all, we all have our own way. I personally do enjoy the how to books, they give me huge inspiration, or I just try their exercises to see if it inspires. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
Enjoy your process no matter how strange, I find when I follow my minds cues and let it work out it's weird needs at any given moment, I usually find what I need and more!
