October Novel Prep Challenge

I've got Scrivener and it does let you import all kinds of images. I don't think you can do free-form drawing or mapping in the program but since you can load pics in it you could do similar to what Brandiwyn🎶 mentioned and snap a pic of the map with your phone and import it into your project file.

Literature & Latte (the ones who make Scrivener) have also come out with a mind-mapping product called Scapple. It will let you brainstorm. You can type notes and draw lines between them as well as do lists and draw boxes around key notes. Then you can take those things on the Scapple file and drag-and-drop them into your open Scrivener project. It turns them into separate note cards in Scrivener.

Besides the whole picture thing, I would definitely recommend Scrivener to anyone who really likes to organize their writing projects especially if you are a novel writer and do huge projects. The organization and note taking alone sells most people on Scrivener.

L&L does have a demo of both Scrivener and Scapple on their web site. You could always download them to check out. I know from experience that Scrivener has an in-depth tutorial. Keep in mind that you don't have to do everything they have in their tutorial. You can pick and choose the features that best fit your writing style.

Oh, and they do make both programs for both Windows and Mac OS X.
