Remember Star Wars is a space opera and technically falls under Fantasy. Just because it is set in space with alien races doesn't mean it's Science Fiction. I'm not sure about blank space, but the more your world is based on things that could be (as far as actual science is concerned - that's one reason there are so few Martians in science fiction these days. We've disproved that.) it is science fiction.
If it is in any way magical or mystical (the Force is an example), then it becomes Fantasy.
