Alright ... this actually happened to me tonight again, as it usually does... so I decided to give this a look over.

One key issue is that when a tab is not active, we've not been actually doing any kind of checking. I quasi-reluctantly let go of that and went ahead and implemented this.

A side benefit is that it's now also check for new emails and the left column email indicator is dynamic, and tied into the title number. So... if you get either an email or an IM when on another tab, it'll alert you.

I'll add this for notifications, too... And maybe newsfeed.

Some testing seems to show success. And an IM from Jeff Author Icon checking to see how long he'd missed that happening is a useful confirmation. *Bigsmile*
