Noticing Newbies

Hello my name is Andre Polk and I'm an aspiring novelist who lives in Vista, California. I was raised in Chicago and got married 3 years ago to a girl from California. I love video games, playing my guitar, reading, watching movies and tv shows. About a year ago I decided to start writing a Sci-Fi High Fantasy novel. I've been worldbuilding for a year because I want a deep and involving setting that doesn't come off childish and cliche. I'm looking for all the advice I can get on writing. I'm in college for web design, and I practice my writing daily. I have been practicing freewriting daily by writing short stories. I have one short story that I just started writing entitled "Your Not Truly Alive Until You Die." I'ts a fantasy short story and I'm looking for diverse idea's that will help make it memorable! i'm looking forward to seeing what writing.com has to offer.
