I wanted to call my Long John Silver, Treasure Island fanfic "Silver", but someone already did that. Then I thought of "Young Silver", but he's only 'young' for the first half-dozen chapters, so that was out, too. My current working title is "Silver Tongue", because of his ability to talk his way out of trouble, and convince people to trust him. However, even that title may not last.
Michael Frayn did a fantastic piece on the different between working titles and published titles, comparing it to becoming a lord and having to choose your "noble" name. I wish I could find it again, but ironically, I can't remember what the piece was called.
