It starts in childhood and follows us into adulthood. My writing buddy often starts out talking about some event and then spends half an hour or so recounting childhood stories or bits of trivia and going off on tangents. It's sometimes hard to follow, but always entertaining.
And, uh... I am not immune to making random associations and going off on tangents, either, especially when I am emboldened by excess sugar or caffeine consumption.
I think it's part of being a writer. Too many ideas, too little time.
