Results for 2014 Write-A-Thon!
Hello Write-A-Thon Writers and Sponsors!

This is it... the numbers have all been tallied and it's time to announce the results of the 6th Annual "NaNoWriMo Write-A-ThonOpen in new Window.!

First, let's take care of the individual Merit Badges:

🌑 Darleen - QoD Author Icon won the coveted Determination Merit Badge for writing the most words in November with a whopping 164,112! That's enough to cross the finish line three times! *Shock*

ember_rain won the Fundraising Merit Badge in recognition of the fact that she raised the most combined funds from all her sponsors. She raised nearly a quarter of a million GPs by herself: 243,245!

Jeff is Gru in #2343485 Author Icon won the Generosity Merit Badge for making the highest aggregate donation among all my sponsored writers. They hit me up for 385,275 GPs this year. This is the fourth consecutive year I've "won" this award... somebody please take it away from me next year! *Laugh*

Now, what I'm sure you've all been waiting for... the team results! It shouldn't be any surprise because they've been leading the way all month long, but the winning team this year is:

The Pink Team with 414,353 words written! *Shock* Not only did they dethrone threepeat winner and incumbent champion Red Team, but they did it in convincing fashion by being the only team to pass the 400,000-word mark and outpacing the runner-up by nearly an entire NaNo novel: 45,771 words! This is the second Write-A-Thon win for the Pink Team, and their first since 2010. Members of the Pink Team will each receive approximately 150,000 GPs (pending final donations). Congratulations!

The runner-up shouldn't be any surprise either:

The Black Team with 368,582 words written! They were the only other group to pass the 300,000-word mark. Their next closest competitor was 74,683 words behind them! The Black Team matched their best finishing position for the second time, and their first since 2010. The Pink and Black Teams both finished one-two that year as well! Members of the Black Team will each receive 50,000 GPs!

The final podium finish this year goes to:

The Brown Team with 293,899 words written! This is the Brown Team's best finishing position to date. Members of the Brown Team will each receive 25,000 GPs!

Here's how the rest of the teams sorted out:

4th Place: The Red Team with 277,039 words written
5th Place: The Silver Team with 268,029 words written
6th Place: The Orange Team with 265,033 words written
7th Place: The White Team with 246,453 words written
8th Place: The Green Team with 236,151 words written
9th Place: The Yellow Team with 231,073 words written
10th Place: The Gold Team with 189,982 words written
11th Place: The Blue Team with 161,264 words written
12th Place: The Purple Team with 109,121 words written

Congratulations to the winning teams and to everyone else who took the time to compete! The final gift point tallies and prize distribution will be completed once the rest of the donations are received; we've still got about a dozen sponsors who need to send in their payment.

In parting, here are some trivia/stats from this year's competition:

*Bulletb* We had 70 competing writers this year, 37 of which successfully completed NaNo. That's a success rate of roughly 53%.

*Bulletb* Participants in this year's Write-A-Thon wrote a collective 2,981,429 words, which is a higher word count than all of:
         Argentina
         Bakersfield, California, USA
         Croatia
         Kingston, Ontario, Canada
         Marin County, California, USA
         Peoria, Illinois, USA
         Thailand
         Topeka, Kansas, USA

*Bulletb* While the final accounting isn't done, it's looking like this activity raised somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,200,000 GPs this year!

*Bulletb* Unlike previous years, no team had a 100% NaNo success rate.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to make this year's activity so successful! I've got a few stray MBs to give out and some donations to receive and then give out, but I hope to have everything closed out in the next couple of days. *Smile*
