Yes, it would be bad to force feed children an adult view of things. And that is my point. There is a line somewhere between giving an audience what they want and being a good world citizen. Many see no problem terrorizing children about anthropogenic global warming. I can see how dealing with the frightening or simply modeling problem solving is a very positive use of fiction.
You don't let the baby drink the whiskey. You DO make them eat their veggies. Just because a child wants something, say another sweet, doesn't mean they should be given it. Sometimes we are just happy that they read at all. But shouldn't there be a slightly higher standard especially for those who write for children?
