A bit off topic, but as a both a scientist and a gamer I feel I should point out that there have been no studies which conclusively show that video games make children violent. In fact the most of the studies that have given any kind of statistically significant correlation have shown almost the opposite- that violent video games makes children more dexterous, improve hand-eye coordination, handle stressful situations better, and a whole host of other benefits.
Trends come and go all the time. Most trends don't last long enough for new authors to craft a whole series within that trend before it becomes a thing of the past. Twilight made vampires popular and there were many, many vampire books that came out in similar genres, but none were as successful as Twilight.
