I know how overwhelming this site appears at first - but once you get in and start experimenting with things, you'll see that it's not that bad and it's put together very well. The best place to start is "Writing.Com 101" Open in new Window.. In there you'll find clearly written details on all the basics of the site. Most importantly - navigation and community involvement. Be sure to "favorite" or "fan" authors. (the little + sign by their names)
That way you can see their posts in the newsfeed. Or you can visit the community newsfeed. All of this is explained in the link.
