Noticing Newbies

Hello all - I am a complete newbie in this writing arena, however as a recently retired social worker can account for 25 years of scholarly but very dry reporting. Perhaps that is why my interest in writing centers around fiction, with a somewhat dark slant. I am interested in short stories about the human "condition", not science fiction or horror, but day to day struggles that we all face at some point in our lives. I joined a writing class recently, piquing my interest and satisfying my need for something intriguing now that I have all this time off. I look forward to a fluid learning environment at this site, and an opportunity to perhaps post something interesting from time to time.
