Hello! New writer who needs help starting/plotting 1st novel
by Bex Author IconMail Icon
Hello Everyone,

I'm new here, never been on a writing site/writers forum before so please forgive me if I don't know what I'm doing!

I have been an avid reader my entire life (well, once I learned to read lol) and I've always wanted to write a novel. That want has now turned into a need so I am trying to figure out how to go about writing my first novel. I was hoping to get some helpful tips on how to do this.

I have had this idea in my head for a novel for a long time now but all I really have is the idea and a few characters that won't leave me alone! I know a few scenes that need to happen and I have about 6 characters, though not all of them are complete characters yet. To be perfectly honest, the 'idea' I have for the novel could actually end up being two separate stories, I'm really not sure!

My question is, how do I start the complex process of writing a novel? It seems like a huge task and I don't know where to start!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

p.s. sorry if this post is so vague, I don't know the etiquette on posting about your ideas/characters/pieces of your novel so if I should give more info (on the ideas, the characters or myself) please let me know and I will do so.

TIA,

Bex
