Greetings and salutations! I've always been told I'm a "good writer" but this is my first effort at taking writing seriously. As an infant I would sit and hold books as if I was reading them which Mom described as pretty bizarre. I tested as reading on a college level by the second grade, unusual for Arkansas. The school advised that I should skip third grade but Mom thought I was too immature for my age. I was six. Growing up, I read constantly. I would sit in class with a Steven King novel behind my textbook. I don't read as often now so I am looking forward to reading other member's content here. I have many interests including game programing, recording music, and art. The common thread for me is creativity, which is why I have always liked writing for there is no other artistic medium in which one can so freely realize their own imagination. Through drawing and painting I learned that by not showing all your cards, such as through presenting an abstracted form, you force people to fill in the dots with their own imagination, giving your creation a more universally reaching and adaptive meaning. The work becomes personal to the person experiencing it. This quality is inherent even in the most descriptive writing.

Last night I finally began to put down on virtual paper one of many story ideas I've had for years now. I'm using H. P. Lovecraft's guide to writing and the piece is flowing out of me like a fountain. What a feeling! I'm leaning toward Horror at the moment, and my favorite type has always been the King/Barker type that soaks you in characters and atmosphere with curve ball plot twists from nowhere. My wife says she loves how visual my writing is which I feel is a boon to that writing style. Tom Robbins is another of my favorite authors. I was completely shocked to learn how much effort he puts into crafting words that seem to flow effortlessly, much as Monet did with paint. I'm usually all over the board anyway with every medium so I look forward to trying out some of my other favorite writing formats as well as some completely new ones. I'm going to stick with shorter pieces for now and look forward to both being reviewed as well as doing reviews once I have better familiarized myself with the process.
