Hi, DreamCatcher37. Welcome to the site.

You might find helpful resources and other writers in your genre at one of the groups here

At the TV Tropes site online, you could research ways these kinds of beings in dreams have been used before.

There's also a recently published how-to-write book on creating monsters -- which you may be able to find at your local library in the 810s nonfiction section, as well as other how-to-write titles for SF/F.

Philip Athans - Writing Monsters: How to Craft Believably Terrifying Creatures to Enhance Your Horror, Fantasy, and Science Fiction – September 18, 2014

Another book you might find useful for methods of developing unusual ideas is
Jeff VanderMeer - Wonderbook: The Illustrated Guide to Creating Imaginative Fiction Paperback – October 15, 2013

Hope that helps.
