A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
WOW! I REALLY hope that's not a true story. If it's a work of fiction, nicely done. If it's real, I'm SO SORRY! I'm a newbie too and making headlines myself, I believe. If you want to get known around the site, get involved in everything that strikes your fancy and even a few things that don't. I've been "forced" or peer-pressured (they weren't being harsh, I just succumb to peer-pressure pretty easily) into participating in events I didn't want to and have not only gotten merit badges (MBs) and made friends, but also found out I rather enjoyed them experience. Get involved. That's my suggestion! If that story you posted is a work of fiction...as I'm thinking it is, again, it's really awesome. I suggest you save it in your portfolio. Copy it using your mouse. On the left side you'll see Create New Item next to a big green Plus sign. Click that. Click Static and paste it in the big part of the blank form that pops up. You have to fill out the rest of the form (except the picture) before you can save it. One thing I HIGHLY recommend to everyone here is go under Advanced (between your story and the save button) and click, I think it's the 3rd one, and change it to Rating Requires Review. That way folks will give you a review instead of just a rating. It may not seem like a big deal, but there's a couple of killjoys running around who will give you low ratings with no feedback...and they seem to NEVER give high ratings, so to prevent hurt feelings, I suggest fixing it so they can't do that. They won't even bother reading your story if they can't give you a low rating. You'll have to do this on EVERY story. FYI, if you're still using your free membership, I think you only get to save 10 items, so pick wisely...or pay for a membership like I did. lol WELCOME! Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead. - Gene Fowler |
