October Novel Prep Challenge

Okay, here's my latest thing I need to know:

How are the FBI and Department of Homeland Security related? Could someone be transferred from the FBI to the DHS or are they completely unrelated? What kinds of departments do the two organizations have (like, I know about the X-Files, because, you know, the show... assuming that's reality and not completely fictional.) I need to place my protagonist in a department with a partner, and she needs to be shuffled around departments a little. I need to understand the organizational structure and hierarchy of both organizations. Who would her bosses be? Where would her office be? Etc.
